Standard Bank CIB economy roadshow (2009)

We were briefed to design a report for the Standard Bank 2009 Economy roadshow. The theme would reflect that the economy is bad for the first half of the year and then good for the second.

We decided to use the metaphor of a tree. At first you think it's a dead tree but then when you remove the book jacket, you realise it's actually a living tree and you were looking at the roots.


The line displayed the same duality using a punctuation mark to change the meaning.

no! more economic crisis
no more economic crisis!

We printed the exclamation mark on a transparent sheet and set it in the book - as you flipped the page it moved into different spaces in the sentence.
